Council members elected October 27th, 2014 for a 4 year term.
On December 1, 2014 our newly elected council was sworn in at Meaford Hall. Our council for the next four years will consist of :-
Barbara Clumpus -Mayor
Harley Greenfield -Deputy Mayor
Steve Bartley, Tony Bell, Jaden Calvert,
Shirley Keaveney, Mike Poetker.
We wish them all the best for the forthcoming term of office and we do realize that it takes time to learn and acclimatize. However, you were all elected based largely on promises made. We, the voting taxpayers expect you to deliver.
Congratulations and good luck with your endeavours.
The backbone of a free and responsible democracy such as we have in Canada is the fact that we have a right to vote. Every Canadian should make the effort to be well informed and use each vote for the good of our society. There are millions of less fortunate people in the world who do not have this right and there are thousands who are dying daily in order to achieve the same freedoms as we have.
Our municipality has a rapidly ageing population, the median average age of 53 years being ten years higher than the rest of Ontario and Canada. In our municipal election in October, two of every seven residents will be over the age of 65.The 'senior' block of votes if voting in concert will decide the future of our municipality. However, there are many seniors and others, who have been there, seen it, done it and are fed up' with the same old promises. They believe that things never change and that is why, many voters do not exercise their right to vote.
What we need for the upcoming municipal election is 'a youthful approach, an unconventional approach, along with a nice dose of thinking outside the box.' The Bottom Line is a group of like minded progressive thinking individuals who endorse this philosophy. Together, we have developed a web site to promote dialogue and encourage new ideas. We are actively seeking candidates who believe in our goals and whom we can support in the coming election. We want candidates who can and will work together as a team for the betterment of all residents of our municipality. We want real input from residents such as you. We might not like your questions, we might disagree with your ideas but you will have had your say and we will listen.
